If you have trouble falling asleep I'm sure you're familiar with your thoughts racing and not being able to stop them. Here's something that might help. As you're lying in bed and your mind starts to spin with thoughts of work, or an angry boss, for example, ask yourself "Is thinking of this going to help me sleep?" If the answer is "no", then move your mind to something calming that will help you sleep, like your breathing, or an image you find soothing. And when you notice yourself thinking about that boss again, don't get mad at yourself--this will only make falling asleep more difficult. Instead remind yourself that this is a practice and that it takes time. Your mind will go back to things that will keep you awake, and this is natural. So notice these thoughts in a nonjudgemental way, move these thoughts to something calming, and allow yourself some grace as you practice something new.
